Microsoft has recently announced the launch of the new Messenger TV, allowing Windows Live Messenger users to watch and share MSN videos whilst talking to friends and family at the same time. These will include programmes, clips, videos and shows, so just when you are chatting online to someone you can catch up on your favourite programmes online together – much like watching TV in the same room.
Microsoft is teaming up with Channel 4 and EMI in providing the content for MSN video, which will include popular Channel 4 clips and music videos. Prior to this new venture, there were no available messaging service that allowed the sharing of videos and programmes’; watching them together online is something that was non-existent.
The new Messenger TV is readily available to Messenger users; all they need to do is click on tab in the normal chat window. “With this innovation we are creating a truly social experience, integrating the connected online community with the more traditional shared experience of viewing TV, allowing our users to share videos with friends.” says the Executive producer of MSN UK Peter Bale.
Close behind Search and Shopping online, watching videos is the third most popular thing to do on the internet and Microsoft are working on taking first dibs on this lucrative business.
