Social media continues to evolve, what with Facebook busting 300 million users, actually beginning to make a profit and copying Twitter, but the micro-bloggers are fighting back by trialling a free phone call service in the US.
That’s right, US Twitterers are now able to get in touch with their followers without touching their qwerty. Twitter have combined forces with US IP telephone giant, Jajah, to create a beta that offers users the ability to make two-way calls simply by tweeting ‘@call @username’.
Once the tweet has been sent, Jajah call the user and connect the call to the designated recipient at their expense, so long as both users are registered to the beta service. Calls may only be made to twerps that are following you in order to safeguard privacy.
Facebook have made similar strides, although they are trialling voice communication via a third party – Vivox. This app has already been successful with virtual world, Second Life.
This is a sure signal that social media is evolving beyond text communication.

Thanks a lot for sharing this post with us.Really an interesting post.
This is definitely the way forward, as people don’t want to have to type to communicate, but so far there hasn’t been an easy system that makes it easy to talk with a group unless they are are all near each other.
